The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, on Tuesday dismissed rumours of strained relations between him, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, describing his ties with both leaders as cordial and mutually respectful.
Speaking at his private residence in Boroboro, Oyo town, the monarch said any concerns that might arise with the governor would be addressed privately. “I have nothing against the government. The governor has been very nice. If there is anything, I will meet him one-on-one and we will talk about it. There is no form of misunderstanding anyway,” he said.
On speculations of discord with the Olubadan, Owoade explained that their relationship remained strong despite misinterpretations circulated online. “My relationship with the Olubadan is cordial. Some people use online bloggers to join the popular bandwagon. They create discord where none exists. There is no issue whatsoever between us. We have mutual respect for each other,” he stated.
The Alaafin expressed gratitude to the media for their continued support, describing journalists as “partners in progress,” and provided updates on developmental projects under his administration.
He highlighted the establishment of a land dispute committee, which has addressed over 200 cases in the past year, and ongoing initiatives including a community health centre valued at N800 million, a planned civic centre, and renovation works at the palace to preserve its heritage.
Owoade also revealed plans to celebrate his birthday on July 18, during which deserving individuals will be conferred with chieftaincy titles.
“The journey so far has been mixed, but we thank God for His guidance. Oyo needs tangible developments, and we are committed to delivering them while maintaining peace, unity, and support for traditional institutions,” he said, urging the public to disregard unfounded rumours.
