The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has stated that it is not part of the coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), rejecting claims made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NNPP National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, clarified that the party has no plans to join or merge with the ADC.

He expressed surprise over Atiku’s claim, noting that the NNPP remains independent and is not aligned with the ADC platform.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar, during a live television interview with Arise TV’s Charles Aniagolu, listed the NNPP among parties in the ADC coalition.

However, Olaposi said the involvement of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, Elder Buba Galadima, and the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the ADC has no connection to the NNPP as a political party.

He added that while members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement may be part of the coalition, some reportedly followed Kwankwaso into the new platform.

According to him, the NNPP is focused solely on contesting elections like other political parties and has no issue with the ADC, but is not part of the coalition.

He further explained that the Memorandum of Association between the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement ended after the 2023 general elections, adding that Kwankwaso and others were expelled from the party.

“We can also say that some members of the Kwankwasiyya movement joined the APC alongside their leader,” he said.

Olaposi noted that those who followed Kwankwaso represent a minority, adding that the NNPP hopes the ADC was not misled by what he described as a rented crowd during Kwankwaso’s reception in Kano.

He further stated that the majority of members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are now in the APC.
