The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected Dr. Anih Johnpaul, a former Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 general elections, as its Enugu State Chairman, while Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, former APC Enugu North Secretary, emerged as State Secretary.

The leadership election, along with 28 other positions, was conducted on Monday during the party’s state congress held in Enugu, following a consensus arrangement by delegates.

The State Congress Committee Secretary, Engr. Echezona Ogbanufe, announced Dr. Anih’s emergence after motions for the dissolution of the acting executive and adoption of a new leadership list were moved and approved by key party officials.

Ogbanufe charged the new leadership to mobilize support for the party, maintain unity and discipline, and strengthen grassroots structures while ensuring transparency, accountability, and internal democracy.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Anih thanked delegates for their confidence in him, pledging to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and party cohesion, while working to position the NDC as a strong political alternative in Enugu State.

He also expressed appreciation to the party’s national leadership and commended the outgoing executives for their contributions, expressing optimism about future electoral success.

Other elected officials include Mrs. Florence Anigbo as Women Leader, Hon. Clinton Ogbonna as Youth Leader, Barr. Chimezie Nwodo as Legal Adviser, Mr. Emmanuel Ugwueze as Publicity Secretary, and Mr. Nnejichoke Michael as State Treasurer, among others.

The congress reportedly concluded peacefully before the late arrival of suspected thugs, whose activities did not disrupt the proceedings.
