Former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sadiq Abubakar, has quit the party, citing a lack of internal democracy.

Speaking with journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday, Abubakar said the APC no longer upholds the principles of fairness and inclusiveness needed for credible political engagement.

He claimed the party’s primary election process is largely influenced by those in power, limiting transparency and denying members equal opportunity.

“The process is neither fair nor just. Primaries are manipulated, and consensus is often forced. I don’t see any improvement in future exercises,” he said.

Abubakar also pointed to the country’s worsening economic situation under the current administration as a factor in his decision, noting that many Nigerians are finding it increasingly difficult to meet basic needs.

He explained that his resignation followed extensive consultations with family, political associates, and key stakeholders, along with a personal assessment of recent developments within the party.

According to him, he is now in search of a political platform with a clearer direction and stronger commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

However, he did not reveal his next political move, saying it would be announced in due course.
