At least 13 people have reportedly been killed after armed men attacked Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Several other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries during the assault, which occurred in the early hours of Friday.

A community member, Mr. Philip Alanga, told journalists in Jos that the attackers invaded the area around midnight, firing sporadically and using machetes and other weapons on residents.

He said the assailants went from house to house, leaving panic and destruction in their wake.

“They came into the community around midnight, shooting and killing people. They moved from one house to another attacking innocent residents,” he said.

Alanga added that many residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence, while several others were injured.

Another resident, Mr. Chigoji Rocku, disclosed that three of the victims were pregnant women.

The Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Mr. Danjuma Auta, also confirmed the incident, describing it as tragic and deeply condemnable.

He decried the repeated attacks in Bassa Local Government Area and other parts of the state, calling on security agencies to strengthen efforts to protect rural communities.

Auta urged security operatives to track down those responsible and ensure justice is served to prevent further violence.

Meanwhile, attempts to get a reaction from the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
