Members of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State aligned with the Nenadi Usman-led leadership have elected a new state chairman to steer the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Lafia on Tuesday, the newly elected chairman, Asoloko Maku, said the recently concluded congresses demonstrated that the party in the state remains united, resilient, and focused on its political objectives.

He dismissed criticisms from opponents, insisting that the party’s foundation is built on democracy and the rule of law.

Maku said he accepted the mandate with a strong sense of responsibility, describing it as a call to service and thanking party stakeholders, including the 13 local government chairmen and secretaries elected during the congresses.

He pledged to lead an inclusive administration focused on grassroots mobilisation and internal unity, while calling on all members, including dissenting voices, to work together toward the 2027 elections.

According to him, the party is committed to social democracy and ensuring that public resources benefit all citizens rather than a privileged few.

Maku also urged members to remain focused, noting that internal legal disputes within the party had been resolved through several court rulings affirming the Nenadi Usman-led leadership.

He referenced judgments delivered between 2025 and 2026, including Supreme Court and Federal High Court decisions, which he said validated the current leadership structure and settled disputes over the party’s national chairmanship.

The chairman added that the Labour Party would continue to advocate for workers, farmers, traders, and young people, stressing its mission to promote fairness and social justice.

He further declared that preparations for the 2027 elections must begin immediately, with efforts to rebuild trust, strengthen structures, and protect votes.

Maku concluded that the party aims to secure victories across all levels of government, saying the “journey” toward major political offices begins now and calling on members to unite in delivering an alternative leadership for the state and country.
