Paul Woolston spotted in Manchester United training after completing transfer
Manchester United have inadvertently announced the signing of Paul Woolston after the goalkeeper was spotted in training with Jose Mourinho’s first team squad. The 20-year-old was on trial at Old Trafford in September after being released by Newcastle United and the Red Devils were impressed with his performances behind closed doors. Joel Pereira, Dean Henderson and Kieran O’Hara all left United last summer, leaving Mourinho with a shortage of options between the sticks. Lee Grant arrived from Stoke City for £1.5m but Sergio Romero has struggled with injuries so United wanted to ensure they were fully covered by signing Woolston.
The youngster, wearing no.32 and a blue top in training, was one of the remaining United players available to Mourinho during the international break. Most of Mourinho’s squad is involved in the Nations League but the Red Devils were boosted by the return of Diogo Dalot and Anthony Martial to full fitness.
Martial pulled out of France’s squad with a thigh injury but there was no sign of Paul Pogba at training. United face Crystal Palace on Saturday and play at home for the first time in nearly a month after a testing period on the road.
