On Wednesday, police in Lagos arrested eight guys for allegedly impersonating military officers.

Akpan Joel, 31, John Johnson, 31, Busayo Akinola, 33, and Simeon Anthony, 43, are among the defendants.

Adamu Sani, 30, Cyril Ogbe, 27, Godfrey Agba, 36, and Benjamin Achi, 29, are among the others.

The defendants appeared in the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court without providing their addresses.

They pleaded not guilty, though.

ASP. The prosecutor told the court that the defendants committed the crime at many sites and times around the state.

The offenders were captured while dressed in army camouflage and posing as army officers, according to her.

She claimed that the offense was in violation of Section 77 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

According to the Nigerian News Agency, impersonation is punishable by three years in prison.

Mrs Adeola Adedayo, the Chief Magistrate, granted the defendants bail in the amount of N200,000 with two sureties apiece.

As part of the bail conditions, she decided that the sureties must provide copies of their National Identification Numbers and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency Cards to the court’s registrar.

The matter was deferred until June 15 for mention by Adedayo.
