Seventy passengers of commercial motorcycle riders (okada) and also seven riders have so far been prosecuted for flouting the Lagos State Government ban on the activities of okada riders in six Local Government Areas of the state.
This was made known by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Police Command; SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
He wrote on his Twitter handle; “MOTORCYCLE BAN: So far, 7 riders and 70 passengers have been prosecuted. So far still, Magistrates have been awarding N50,000 fine or 6 months imprisonment (especially for the unruly/confrontational ones). For those wondering, many offenders abscond leaving motorcycles behind.”
The Lagos State Government in conjunction with law enforcement agencies had on June 1st started the implementation on the ban on activities of commercial motorcycle riders.
