JUST IN: 30 CASES IN COURTS AGAINST NORTH-WEST APC PRIMARIES
By Sumayyah Olapade
No fewer than 30 aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress have instituted cases against the party in the North-West zone.
As a result of how the party’s primary elections were conducted in the zone, charges were brought before multiple courts.
This was said at a press conference held shortly after the maiden meeting of the “Legal Field Operations Committee” in Kaduna by Ahmed El-Marzuq, the APC’s national legal adviser.
According to him, the Committee’s job was to deal with legal issues brought up by members who felt wronged by the way various primary elections for state assemblies, governorships, houses of representatives, and presidents were conducted.
“Today in Kaduna, the Zonal Legal Field Operations Committee convened. Legal counsel from Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Sokoto, as well as counsel from the National headquarters, were present.
“Petitions and concerns of grievances are typically received during such exercises. According to El-Marzuq, the law has established avenues for these grievances to be followed in the various courts around the nation.
The meeting, according to the legal advisor, was a part of the party’s efforts to appease irate members in order to plan forward for the general election in 2023.
He continued by saying that the committee had the chance to learn about the number of court cases filed against the party at the inaugural meeting and that “so far, we registered 30 cases in the North-West zone.”
Some of the cases, he said, were even from opposition parties, allaying fears that the cases would not affect the fortunes of the party in the forthcoming general election.
