Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said his administration is on heightened alert over rising insecurity across the country, adding that plans are underway to deploy technology-based solutions to reinforce the state’s security system.

Abiodun disclosed this during an All Progressives Congress strategic meeting held at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara, Abeokuta, according to a statement released on Saturday.

He described the increasing incidents of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in parts of the country as alarming, assuring residents that proactive steps were being taken to prevent criminal groups from gaining a foothold in Ogun State.

“We are rising to the occasion of insecurity by deploying technology to safeguard the lives of our people. We will not wait for anyone to come and attack us,” he said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and property through sustained investment in security infrastructure, stronger cooperation with security agencies, and community-based engagement.

“As a government, we reaffirm our commitment to the protection of lives and property across Ogun State.

“Through strategic investments in security infrastructure, collaboration with security agencies and community engagement, we remain committed to maintaining Ogun State as a secure, peaceful and investment-friendly destination,” he added.

Abiodun also said his government was prioritising the security of schools and educational institutions, stressing the need to ensure the safety of students.

According to him, security measures around schools have been strengthened through increased surveillance, deployment of security personnel to key locations, improved inter-agency coordination, and the use of modern monitoring technology in vulnerable areas.

He said these steps are aimed at preventing criminal activity and maintaining safe learning environments.

He further noted that while the government has invested heavily in infrastructure, more attention would now be directed toward human capital development and social intervention programmes to ease economic hardship on residents.

The governor also commended the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State for conducting peaceful primary elections, describing the process as inclusive and transparent.

“Our primary was inclusive, transparent and fair. We sat down, discussed and chose our candidates without rancour.

“Though many contested, only one person emerged. Those who stepped down for others are the unsung heroes of this process,” he said.

Earlier, Ogun APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, praised party members for their conduct during the primaries, noting that the meeting was aimed at strengthening mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The remarks come amid renewed security concerns in parts of the state.

On Tuesday, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Major Idereghi Akari, confirmed that a soldier and four others were killed during a failed kidnapping attempt involving Chinese expatriates in Magbon, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

He added that one suspected kidnapper was killed, while another soldier and two police officers sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. A joint security team had responded to a distress call before coming under attack near a dredging site where expatriate workers were operating.
