AKWA IBOM CLERIC FOUND DEAD IN CHURCH, POLICE BEGIN INVESTIGATION

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Pastor Etetim Udo, Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries in Oron, following reports that he allegedly died by suicide.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, said police received a distress call on Thursday, July 23, at about 8:18 a.m. from a resident who reported an unusual gathering at the church premises.
The caller told officers that after arriving at the church, where he usually parks his motorcycle, he was informed by the pastor’s children that their father had allegedly taken his own life.

Police operatives immediately responded to the scene, where preliminary observations indicated that the cleric was found suspended with a twisted mosquito-net rope inside the church building.
According to the police, investigators secured and documented the scene, took photographs and recovered relevant exhibits for forensic examination and further investigation.
The body was evacuated to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed the pastor dead. His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy.
The statement noted that while initial findings suggest a suspected case of suicide, investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the cleric’s death and rule out any other possible causes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, assured residents that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, professionally and without bias.
He urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and cooperate with the police.
The commissioner also appealed to members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information or engaging in speculation that could hinder the investigation or create unnecessary public concern.
