ANAMBRA VARSITY DISMISSES TWO PROFESSORS, THREE OTHERS OVER GROSS MISCONDUCT

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Anambra State, has dismissed five staff members, including two professors, two senior lecturers and a principal assistant registrar, over allegations of gross misconduct.
The decision was announced at the institution’s 122nd Governing Council meeting held on Friday.
In a statement issued on Monday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Harrison Madubueze, said the disciplinary action reflected the institution’s commitment to maintaining integrity and professional standards.
Among those dismissed are Prof. C.C. Nwabachili, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Also dismissed were Dr I.H. Iheukwumere and Mr Emeka Nwabunnia of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Uli Campus.
According to the university, the two lecturers were found culpable of offences including sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion and other forms of ethical misconduct.
The fifth dismissed staff member is Mrs Ifeoma Kakulu, a Principal Assistant Registrar who served as Examination Officer for the Faculty of Law at the Igbariam Campus at the time of the alleged offence.
The statement partly read: “At its 122nd meeting on Friday, the Eighth Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University dismissed five staff members.”
The university said the action demonstrates its resolve to uphold discipline and preserve institutional credibility.
The Governing Council warned that conduct capable of damaging the university’s reputation would attract severe sanctions and reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe, accountable and forward-looking academic environment.
According to the statement, the institution remains focused on building what it described as a “now university and of the future.”
