The sources indicated that the explosive device was believed to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents along the road.

One passenger reportedly died instantly, while nine others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Makama said a joint emergency response team, including military personnel, police tactical units, Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) operatives, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters, was deployed to the scene shortly after the blast.

According to him, the injured victims were evacuated to a hospital for treatment, while the deceased was taken to the hospital, where a doctor confirmed the death before the body was released to the family for burial in line with Islamic rites.

He added that EOD personnel secured the area after the explosion, while security operatives continued clearance operations to forestall further attacks in the area.
