The Bauchi State Police Command has rescued two kidnap victims during a joint security operation in Gwamnare Forest, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was carried out by a combined team of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Divisional Police Officer in Ningi and personnel of the Forestry Guards.

The command said the operation followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordering intensified security operations in communities experiencing a surge in kidnapping incidents.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to him, the commissioner directed tactical teams to relocate to affected communities to ensure the safe rescue of kidnapped victims and the apprehension of those responsible.

“In compliance with the commissioner’s directive, operatives of the Command have successfully rescued two kidnap victims during a joint security operation conducted in Gwamnare Forest, Ningi Local Government Area,” Abubakar said.

He explained that the operation commenced after a situation report was received at the Ningi Police Division on July 1, 2026.

“Following the report received at Ningi Division on July 1, 2026, at about 10:00 hours, a combined team of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit led by their respective commanders, the DPO Ningi and his team, alongside the Commander of the Forestry Guards, moved into operation through the Rafin Chiyawa axis to Gwamnare in Ningi Local Government Area,” he stated.

Abubakar said the operation was launched in response to persistent kidnapping incidents reported in Dogon Ruwa and Rafin Chiyawa villages around the Gwamnare Forest.

During the operation, security operatives rescued two victims identified as Alhaji Yahaya, 50, from Masallachi Hamlet in Dogon Ruwa Village, and Alhaji Kabiru from Gwamnare Forest.

“No casualty or loss of life was recorded during the operation,” the police spokesperson added.

He noted that security operatives had intensified efforts to rescue other victims believed to still be in captivity.

Abubakar said the Commissioner of Police commended the courage, professionalism and coordinated efforts of the joint security team, while reassuring residents of Dogon Ruwa, Rafin Chiyawa and neighbouring communities of the command’s determination to flush out criminal elements hiding in forests across the state.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
