A community leader in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, has called for a peaceful resolution to the Supreme Court-ordered delineation of the Warri Federal Constituency.

His appeal follows the shutdown of 13 flow stations by protesting Ijaw women in Gbaramatu Kingdom on June 8.

In a statement made available to journalists in Warri, Ekpemupolo stressed the need for calm and dialogue amid rising tensions.

He noted that the Ijaw people are historically known for peaceful coexistence and should not deviate from that tradition.

He warned that the current political situation, triggered by INEC’s delay in completing ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency, should not be allowed to escalate into violence.

Ekpemupolo called for restraint from all sides, urging stakeholders to avoid actions that could worsen the situation.

He also advocated an immediate meeting of community leaders to chart a peaceful way forward.

According to him, all parties must work together to achieve a peaceful resolution of the dispute.

He urged INEC to take the necessary steps to implement the Supreme Court judgment and restore peace in Warri and its environs.

He further appealed to residents of Warri—Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo alike—to remain calm and patient as they await the electoral body’s actions.

Meanwhile, Ijaw women had on Monday staged a protest and shut down flow stations operated by an oil company in the Gbaramatu area.

They vowed to continue occupying the facilities until INEC implements the Supreme Court ruling on the delineation of wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency.
