The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has raised concern over recent incidents of political violence reported in different parts of the state.

He also sympathised with residents who have sustained injuries, losses, and emotional trauma as a result of the clashes.

Oyebamiji’s reaction follows reported shootings in some areas of Osun State on Tuesday.

In a statement issued the same day, he expressed solidarity with victims, their families, and loved ones, while praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Describing the incidents as unfortunate, the APC candidate reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, stressing that elections should be decided through the ballot rather than violence.

He stated that no political position, including that of governor, is worth the shedding of human blood, noting that democracy is a contest of ideas, vision, and service.

Oyebamiji also expressed concern over alleged attacks on APC members and supporters across the state, claiming that party members were targeted during political activities.

He alleged that APC supporters were attacked in Owode-Ede, while campaign buses belonging to his organisation were vandalised during the unrest.

He further claimed that APC members taking part in a peaceful “Walk-to-Live” rally in Ifeland were assaulted by hoodlums allegedly linked to the ruling party, leaving several participants injured.

According to him, supporters in Osogbo also suffered physical attacks, with reports of gunshots fired during the violence, although he noted that the exact number of casualties had not been independently confirmed.

Oyebamiji condemned all forms of political violence, saying intimidation and lawlessness have no place in a democratic society, and called for stronger protection of lives and property.

He added that many residents currently feel unsafe due to what he described as rising political intolerance and insecurity in the state.

Looking ahead to the governorship election, he pledged that security would be a top priority if elected.

He assured that citizens would be able to exercise their democratic rights without fear, while urging residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding despite provocations.

Oyebamiji also said his administration would focus on security, welfare, prosperity, and strengthening democratic institutions if elected.
