The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has announced the recruitment and training of 10,000 ad hoc personnel ahead of Saturday’s local government election in Edo State.
Chairman of the commission, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, disclosed this during a press briefing in Benin City on Thursday, assuring residents that preparations for the polls had been completed.
According to him, the recruited personnel have undergone the necessary training and possess the competence and professionalism required to conduct a credible election.
Aifuobhokhan stated that the commission had put in place all arrangements needed to ensure a free, fair, transparent, peaceful and inclusive electoral process.
He said the preparations were designed to comply with the Constitution, relevant electoral laws of Edo State and internationally accepted democratic standards.
The EDSIEC chairman also disclosed that all sensitive and non-sensitive election materials had been produced, inspected, sorted and packaged for deployment across the state.
He added that special logistical plans had been made to ensure timely delivery of materials to riverine and hard-to-reach communities, preventing eligible voters from being disenfranchised because of geographical barriers.
According to him, election materials have already been allocated to local government offices and arranged according to wards and polling units for seamless distribution.
Aifuobhokhan further revealed that voting will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., while election results will be transmitted manually.
He expressed confidence in the commission’s readiness, noting that logistics, transportation arrangements, personnel training, security coordination and communication systems had all been finalised.
The EDSIEC boss assured voters that every local government area, ward and polling unit in the state was fully prepared for the exercise, stressing that the commission had fulfilled its constitutional responsibility by putting all necessary structures in place for a successful election.
He maintained that the electoral body remains committed to conducting polls that accurately reflect the will of the people of Edo State.
