A late-night fire outbreak on Thursday razed several offices, shops, and valuable property along Murtala Mohammed Way in the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

The fire, which occurred near First City Monument Bank (FCMB), reportedly started at a salvage yard popularly known as Takumbo Market before spreading to nearby commercial structures.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the Fire Service received a distress call at about 10:54 p.m. from one of its personnel, HFS Ibrahim Sabo, who alerted authorities to the incident.

Following the report, firefighters from the Service Headquarters and other metropolitan fire stations were immediately mobilised to the scene to contain the inferno.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a one-storey building and an adjoining commercial complex measuring approximately 300 by 200 feet engulfed in flames.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated from the salvage yard, where a substantial quantity of goods and property was destroyed before the blaze spread to neighbouring buildings.

The fire severely affected the upper floor of the Kanawa Building, destroying two offices, two parlours, two toilets, and a kitchen.

Two stores located on the ground floor of TUSRAYS Nigeria Limited were also damaged in the incident.

The Kano State Fire Service attributed the cause of the fire to an electrical spark.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents and business owners to adhere strictly to fire safety regulations and ensure proper maintenance of electrical installations.

He stressed the importance of taking preventive measures to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks and appealed to members of the public to promptly report emergencies to the nearest fire station.

According to Anas, early notification enables firefighters to respond swiftly, minimise destruction, and save lives and property.

No casualties were recorded in the incident as of the time of filing this report.
