FUBARA SET TO UNVEIL RIVERS 2026 BUDGET AMID POLITICAL TRUCE

There are strong indications that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will on Friday present the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The move comes days after the governor submitted the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to lawmakers, which was approved within 24 hours, clearing the path for the presentation of the 2026 budget.
Fubara is expected to appear before lawmakers at the Assembly Quarters Auditorium, the temporary venue for legislative sittings following the destruction of the Assembly chamber during the political crisis that engulfed the state nearly three years ago.
A source at the Government House, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed that preparations had been concluded for the budget presentation.
“Today is the D-Day. The much-awaited budget presentation will take place today. The governor will present the budget,” the source said.
The budget presentation had been delayed amid the prolonged political dispute between the governor and members of the Assembly.
However, some stakeholders argued that Fubara was under no immediate pressure to present a new budget after President Bola Tinubu transmitted the state’s budget to the Senate for approval during the period of emergency rule and the administration of former state administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas.
The expected presentation is widely seen as a sign of improved relations between the governor and the Amaewhule-led Assembly following recent reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the state’s political crisis.
