JUST IN: CARLOS QUEIROZ NAMED GHANA HEAD COACH AHEAD OF 2026 WORLD CUP

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The experienced tactician, who has previously managed Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran, will lead Ghana’s charge at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz brings a strong World Cup résumé, having guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, taken Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, and led Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions of the competition.

Beyond these roles, he has also coached national teams in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, and is expected to leverage his vast international experience to strengthen Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
He is set to begin work immediately as preparations begin for the tournament, which will kick off on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will open its Group stage campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, before facing England and Croatia in the remaining group fixtures.
