Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and his membership of the Kano State Executive Council.

In a statement personally signed and shared on his Facebook page, Kwankwaso said he took the decision with a “heavy heart,” marking the end of his tenure in the cabinet of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as a privilege and an honour to work for the people of Kano State.

“I wish to express my deepest appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for granting me the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State,” he said, noting that he valued the confidence and trust reposed in him throughout his tenure.

Kwankwaso said his period in government was marked by valuable experiences and lessons that would remain with him beyond his exit from public office.

He did not disclose the specific reasons for his resignation.

Reflecting on the sector he oversaw, the former commissioner expressed hope that the youth of Kano State would continue to receive adequate attention and support from the government, while also voicing optimism about the future of sports development in the state.

“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve,” he said.

“I also hope for the best for our sports development programmes and remain confident that they will continue to flourish.”

He concluded by offering prayers for Kano State and its people, while wishing the state government success in its efforts to deliver good governance.

Kwankwaso’s resignation comes amid recent political developments within the Kano State government, following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the APC, reportedly against the wishes of his political godfather, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
