The Lagos State Government has commenced activities for the 2026 World Food Day celebration with a road walk involving stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.

The walk, which began on Thursday from the Johnson Jakande Tinubu (JJT) Park, opposite the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex, in Alausa, is proceeding to Allen Avenue Roundabout and back to the starting point.

The exercise is part of activities lined up by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems to commemorate this year’s World Food Day, themed “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow.”

Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Systems, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, had announced the road walk during a press briefing on Tuesday, alongside the Lagos Agric Scholars Quiz Competition and the grand finale scheduled for October 16.

Fashola had said the ministry expected 3,500 value-chain stakeholders to showcase agricultural produce and equipment as part of this year’s celebration.

He had also stressed the importance of innovation in strengthening Lagos’ food system, saying, “For Lagos, a rapidly growing megacity with an ever-increasing demand for food, innovation is no longer an option but a necessity.”
