The Lagos State Police Command has strongly debunked reports alleging that the late Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Khan Salihu, was kidnapped before his death, describing the publication as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said the report was “false, misleading, and a complete fabrication with no basis in fact whatsoever.”
The Command clarified that DCP Salihu was never abducted or kidnapped at any point prior to his death.
It explained that “DCP Khan Salihu briefly complained of feeling unwell and was immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Sadly, upon arrival, medical doctors confirmed him dead.”
According to the statement, at no time was the senior officer involved in any kidnapping or criminal-related incident as alleged in the report.
The Command described the publication as “deeply disturbing and professionally disappointing,” faulting the media platform for failing to verify the information before publication.
It said the report had misled the public and caused avoidable distress to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased officer.
The police command further demanded the immediate withdrawal of the publication and urged the media organisation to issue a public correction and apology.
It advised members of the public to disregard the report and rely only on verified information from official channels of the Lagos State Police Command.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating misinformation and ensuring the dissemination of accurate and timely information to the public.
