LAGOS WARNS OF HEAVY RAINS, FLOOD RISKS ACROSS MULTIPLE AREAS
Agency Report

The Lagos State Government has issued a flood alert warning residents of possible heavy rainfall, rising water levels, riverbank overflow and flash flooding between June 14 and June 21, 2026.
The warning was issued by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Mahamood Adegbite, following a flood prediction update from the Federal Ministry of Environment.
According to the update signed by the Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management, Usman Bokani, several parts of the state were classified as “Critical Risk Areas.”
The affected locations include Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Lekki, Ojo, Orile-Agege, Surulere, Agege, Alimosho and Kosofe.
The advisory urged residents in these areas to maintain flood watch, identify evacuation routes, and take steps to protect vulnerable households.
It also warned against living or conducting business within active floodplains, low-lying drainage channels and riverbank areas.
Despite the warning, the state government assured residents that there was no cause for panic, noting that ongoing drainage maintenance and desilting efforts had helped reduce the impact of heavy rainfall so far this year.
“These proactive steps have ensured that the state has not suffered any devastating effect that comes with heavy rainfalls since the advent of the rains this year,” the statement said.
Officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continued monitoring and maintenance of drainage infrastructure to mitigate flooding risks across Lagos.
