Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has picked former Director-General of the State Security Service, Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The development was announced on Thursday by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, following the APM National Convention held at Rilwan Adamu Square in Bauchi.
Makinde said the choice of Daura, who served as Director-General of the SSS from 2015 to 2018, was deliberate, citing his extensive experience in intelligence and national security.
According to the governor, Daura’s experience will strengthen the ticket’s capacity to confront insecurity, which he identified as one of the major challenges facing the country.
While accepting the development, Makinde pledged that his administration at the national level would prioritise security, poverty reduction and improved welfare for Nigerians.
He also called on politicians and other stakeholders who share his vision to work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde said he was prepared to bring his experience in governing Oyo State to the national stage and work with like-minded Nigerians to build a better country.
Daura served as the Director-General of the State Security Service between 2015 and 2018 and brings extensive experience in Nigeria’s intelligence and security sector to the APM presidential ticket.
Makinde has served as governor of Oyo State since 2019 and is already the APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
