Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and one half of the former P-Square duo, has responded to calls from some fans urging him to retire from music.
The media reports that the 44-year-old recently came under criticism from some social media users who argued that he was too old to continue making Afrobeats music.
Speaking during an interview on The Beat FM Lagos, Mr P dismissed the suggestion, insisting that there is no retirement age in the music industry.

The singer pointed to the late Michael Jackson as an example, noting that the global icon was still recording music and preparing for a world tour in his 50s before his death.
Mr P also suggested that those calling for his retirement were more interested in seeing him fail than supporting his career.
“We should be careful about how we try to bring people down. There is no retirement in music. I don’t understand why some people think musicians should retire.
“Michael Jackson was over 50 and was still preparing for a world tour before he passed away. It’s only in Nigeria that people wake up and start telling musicians to retire. I’ve seen similar comments directed at Wizkid,” he said.
