In a strategic move to tackle youth unemployment, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with InnoPower Africa to connect young Nigerian professionals with remote job opportunities in diaspora-owned businesses across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The partnership agreement was formalised on the sidelines of the 8th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit, which recently concluded in Abuja.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NIDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the initiative aligns with the Commission’s core mandate of leveraging the Nigerian diaspora as a vital force in national development.
“NIDCOM is proud to champion this initiative that embodies our core mandate: mobilising the Nigerian diaspora as active participants in solving our nation’s challenges,” she said.
“Nigerians abroad are employers, mentors and champions who can directly create opportunities for their brothers and sisters at home.”
Founder of InnoPower Africa, Mr. Emil Ekiyor, described Nigerian youths as world-class talents who are innovative and capable of delivering exceptional value to businesses globally. He expressed confidence that the partnership would significantly expand access to practical job engagements and open up limitless opportunities for young Nigerians.
“This collaboration will truly turn things around for the youths by creating practical job engagements and unlimited opportunities,” Ekiyor said.
The MoU was signed on behalf of NIDCOM by Dabiri-Erewa, while Ekiyor signed for InnoPower Africa. The event was witnessed by the Secretary to the Commission, Engr. Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, as well as the legal advisers of both NIDCOM and InnoPower Africa.
The initiative is expected to strengthen diaspora engagement, promote remote work opportunities and boost youth employment through global partnerships.
