The Niger State Government has advised residents to continue their normal activities and ignore reports claiming bandit invasions in the state capital and other communities.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nana, gave the assurance in a statement on Thursday, stressing that Niger State remains safe, secure, and conducive for teaching and learning, especially in schools.

He was responding to reports alleging attacks on schools in Minna and surrounding areas, as well as claims of the abduction of pupils, students, and teachers. The reports caused panic in some schools, leading to the temporary closure of affected institutions and the evacuation of students and staff.

Nana dismissed the reports as false and misleading, saying they were being circulated on social media to create fear and confusion.

According to him, the Ministry of Information and Orientation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Niger State Police Command, and other security agencies, confirmed that no such attacks occurred.

He added that security assessments and verifications showed the claims were entirely unfounded and intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students, teachers, and school communities, noting that it continues to work with security agencies and stakeholders to strengthen safety measures around schools across the state.

Parents and guardians were urged to remain calm and continue sending their children to school, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, has directed Divisional Police Officers to collaborate with school authorities under school protection initiatives and maintain visibility patrols.

Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity, sharing contact lines for emergency communication with the command.
