The Police Service Commission has dismissed as false a viral press release claiming that successful recruits into the Nigeria Police Force would be posted only to their states of origin under a purported “State Police Act 2026.”

In a disclaimer issued on Friday and signed by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the commission said the document circulating on social media did not originate from the PSC.

The fake notice had claimed that a medical screening exercise would hold between July 16 and July 22 and that a portal would be activated on July 14 for candidates to print medical screening slips.

However, the commission described the publication as the handiwork of fraudsters and urged members of the public to disregard it entirely.

According to the PSC, references in the document to a “State Police Act 2026” and the posting of recruits exclusively to their states of origin are false and misleading.

The commission disclosed that it held a stakeholders’ meeting on July 9 involving representatives of the PSC, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Character Commission and the Ministry of Police Affairs to discuss the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

It noted that an official statement detailing the outcome of the meeting and the next phase of the recruitment process would be released in due course.

The PSC therefore advised applicants and members of the public to await only official communications regarding the recruitment exercise.

The commission also urged candidates to rely solely on information published through its verified channels, including its official website, recruitment portal, email addresses and social media platforms.

Reiterating that police recruitment remains completely free, the PSC warned applicants against paying money to individuals or groups claiming to offer assistance in the process.

It further cautioned that anyone found circulating fake recruitment notices or engaging in fraudulent activities would face legal consequences.
