Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled coordinated attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists to infiltrate several communities on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Capt. Muhammad Goni, the failed attacks targeted Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross area during the early hours of the day.

Goni said the terrorists launched multiple infiltration attempts between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. in a bid to gain access to the metropolis.

He explained that troops, aided by existing early-warning systems, detected the movement of the insurgents and engaged them with coordinated firepower from different directions, effectively preventing the incursions.

The military also thwarted separate infiltration attempts in Miringa and Dutsen Kura, both located in the Buratai area.

During a pursuit operation in Miringa, an Army Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle reportedly detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, no casualties were recorded among the troops.

Goni said the terrorists abandoned their mission and retreated after encountering stiff resistance from the military.

He added that troops have commenced clearance and exploitation operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing insurgents, consolidating gains and preventing further threats to nearby communities.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups across the North-East and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing security efforts.
