Two Nigerians identified simply as Collins and Osas have reportedly died in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, under circumstances suspected to be linked to poisoning.

It was learnt on Saturday that the victims, who were residents of Misrata, had travelled to Tripoli on July 20 with a friend whose identity is yet to be confirmed.

According to sources, the three men visited an area known as Oshofana. After spending four days, their friend opted to return to Misrata, but Collins and Osas reportedly chose to remain in Tripoli. He allegedly left them behind, only to later receive a call that both had died of suspected food poisoning.

A relative of Collins said that the victims were unfamiliar with Oshofana, adding that the account given by their companion had raised doubts.

“Given the nature of what Oshofana is known for, many here are not satisfied with his explanation, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the true cause of their death,”
