On Tuesday (May 1), Kanye West made headlines once again when he stopped by TMZ Live and claimed slavery was a choice. “When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years?! That sounds like a choice,” the rapper said. “Like, you was there for 400 years and it was all of y’all?” Now the rapper is clarifying his controversial comments.
Shortly after The Life of Pablo artist’s bold claims went viral, Yeezy hopped on Twitter and clarified what he was trying to say. “To make myself clear,” he tweeted. “Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved.”
The rapper added that the reason he brought up the “400 years point” is because “we can’t be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought It was just and idea.”
Yeezy continued tweeting, saying he was “being attacked for presenting new ideas” and that he will not allow his tongue to be cut. “They cut our tongues so we couldn’t communicate to each other,” he wrote. “They hung the most powerful in order to force fear into the others. They can no longer stop our voice,” Kanye added.
The rapper’s comments about slavery aren’t the only things that have angered his fans and followers lately. The “Ye vs. the People” artist recently spent time with right-wing conservative figures Candace Owens and Charlie Kirk, showed his support for President Donald Trump and also wore a “Make America Great Again” hat.
