Ramesh Babu used to be a regular until he hit a jackpot that took him from rock-bottom to the top.

The rich barber now has over 200 luxury vehicles of various brands in his fleet which he rents out for good sums Ramesh Babu, an Indian icon started his life as a son of a poor barber who died while the chap was still young. The billionaire followed his dad’s footsteps and took up a career in the barber business while he was still 14-years old.

In 1994, the young entrepreneur opened a Maruti van that served as a barbershop after saving his income for a couple of years.

Presently, the budding entrepreneur is a billionaire who has over 200 luxury cars consisting of BMW’s, Mercedes’ brands among others in his fleet.

He rents out his luxurious fleet for thousands per day and the highest can go for as much as KSh 72,884. Despite being a wealthy businessman, Babu refuses to forget his past and still cuts hair.

To him, this act of humility ensures he never forgets his humble beginnings and how far he has come. On most of the days, Babu comes to his workplace driving a Rs 3.1 crore Rolls-Royce Ghost. He had a challenging road to success and much of his early life was spent struggling for survival as he had to battle losing his father at a very tender age of seven.

If anybody told Babu he would turn a billionaire by 40 working his way up from the barbershop his father left behind, he would have called it a pipe dream. Babu said he and his mother had to survive on a meal daily following his father’s demise.

Responsibility soon put him into a dilemma of choosing between studying or finding a means for survival. The billionaire said his dream of always wanting to own a car made him purchase the Maruti that he started renting out.

What started out as an interest soon ballooned into a multi-million business that is central to his country’s tourism business, since his cars are always used by tourists.
