NEYMAR SET TO FACE FRAUD, CORRUPTION TRIAL AFTER BARCA MOVE

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Brazilian investment group DIS, Neymar, Barcelona, and Santos will go on trial on Oct. 17 on charges of fraud and corruption related to the 2013 transfer of the Brazil forward to Barca.

Neymar’s father, mother and the family company N&N have also been charged in the case, along with former Santos manager Odilio Rodrigues and Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, the then-president and vice-president of Barcelona respectively.

The lawsuit is the result of a complaint filed by DIS, which claimed to have received less money than it was entitled when Neymar joined Barcelona. DIS owned a part of Neymar’s transfer rights.

Investigations into possible concealment of any part of the transfer fee were conducted in Brazil and Spain, and the trial, which will take place at the Provincial Court of Barcelona, is scheduled to last until Oct. 31.

Although Neymar has denied involvement, the case will now proceed to trial after Spain’s High Court rejected appeals from the player, his parents, N&N, and the two clubs in 2017.
