Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister, has unveiled a five-year strategy plan to handle internal security throughout the nation.

This was said by Aregbesola in his remarks on Tuesday at the Abuja launch of the Ministry and its Services/Board’s Five Year Strategic Plan.

According to Aregbesola, the strategy would take advantage of the Ministry’s advantages and position to have a substantial impact on the crucial problems affecting Nigeria’s internal security.

The Minister declared, “In a way that many do not immediately comprehend, the Ministry of Interior is essential to both national security and prosperity. These are carried out by the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, and Nigerian Immigration Service.

“These services are crucial for both the general welfare of the populace and the security of any country. “There is the need to have a holistic long-term plan for these agencies and other operating arms of the Ministry for their operations to be enhanced and for them to be more successful in their mission,” the report states. “There are still challenges here and there, but thousands of thousands of cases that would have put the nation into chaos are addressed daily and nipped in the bud.”

The Ministry of Interior has been operating without a strategic plan, he said, according to records and facts that are now available.

The lack of the necessary synergy to drive internal security is the cause of the country’s existing degree of security management gaps.

“It is therefore a key part of achieving the Ministry’s mandate, strategic goals and objectives by defining and articulating an executable Five Year Strategic Plan roadmap focused on shaping its future direction while the document is underpinned by the essential synergy necessary for actualizing the core mandate of the Ministry which is effective internal security management and citizenship integrity,” Aregbesola noted.

The review was done by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore.
