JUST IN: TINUBU MEETS LABOUR LEADERS AMID ANTI-SUBSIDY REMOVAL PROTEST

Read Time:55 Second

President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with labor union leaders at the State House in Abuja.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led protests around the country on Wednesday against the removal of petrol subsidies without suitable palliative measures.

The rallies, which were launched by the NLC and TUC, voiced worries about the impact on residents’ living costs, particularly the disadvantaged.

The purpose of the gathering is to transmit workers’ problems, negotiate alternative solutions, and offer demands for appropriate palliative measures to reduce economic difficulties.

The labor leaders had stated that they were seeking assurances from the government that their concerns would be addressed efficiently and promptly, guaranteeing that the elimination of the petrol subsidy would not be unduly difficult, especially for Nigerians who are already facing economic challenges.

President Bola Tinubu proclaimed the end of the gasoline subsidy system during his inaugural address on May 29.

The announcement instantly resulted in an increase in the price of gasoline at the pump, a quadrupling of transportation costs in some locations, and ballooning inflation across multiple market segments.
