The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, as well as related agencies, convened a strategy meeting to discuss how to better serve the state’s citizens.

Speaking at the recent “A Day with the Honorable Commissioner and the Special Adviser” strategy session at the LASBCA Auditorium, GRA, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, stated that, in the best interests of the state and its citizens, the new year offered a chance to examine business procedures, remove bottlenecks, and address the problem of overlapping functions among agencies in the physical planning sector.

“It is paramount for us in the physical planning family to map out the best strategies to realign and improve the quality of our output while repositioning the ministry and enhancing the image of the Lagos State Government,” he said.

The physical planning family, he continued, should prioritize lobbying and strategic stakeholder management, with developers, landowners, and experts in the built environment being among the most important stakeholders.

Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser for Enterprise Geographic Information System (e-GIS) and Urban Development, who presided over the business process review, encouraged the technical divisions and agencies within the ministry to work together to enhance efficiency.

According to him, government institutions’ procedures in this field need to be more efficient, less laborious, and goal-oriented in order to meet the intended objective of maintaining Lagos’ built environment.

For the fruitful meeting, the Commissioner and the Special Adviser were thanked by Mr. Oluwole Sotire, Permanent Secretary.

He said the session helped to fix grey areas for better synergy among critical members of the physical planning family.

Earlier, the guest speaker, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, made a presentation on social and emotional intelligence.

Bamgboye, a former Permanent Secretary in Lagos State, highlighted the value of transparency, empathy, effective communication, the reward system, and clarity of purpose, amongst others, as essential factors in organizational and personal success.

Heads of agencies in attendance, including the General Manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mr Gbolahan Oki, and his Physical Planning Permit Authority counterpart, Kehinde Osinaike presented the business processes of their respective agencies.
