Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s remarks on the state of opposition parties in Nigeria, acknowledging the internal challenges facing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki, however, maintained confidence in the party’s ability to overcome its issues, stating that the PDP would resolve its internal disagreements.

President Tinubu, during his Democracy Day address on Thursday, had mocked opposition parties, expressing delight at their disorganisation.

“It is a joy to see the opposition in disarray.

“For me, I will not say, try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you to do so, either,” the President said.

Tinubu also rejected allegations that his administration is plotting to create a one-party state by engineering defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shortly after the ceremony at the National Assembly, former Senate President Bukola Saraki addressed journalists, admitting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently grappling with internal issues.

He called on his party and other opposition groups to focus on self-correction and reorganisation, saying they must “get their houses in order.”

Saraki said, “I think we must take him at his words. I mean, he spoke well, saying that he’s not for a one-party state. So we must take him at his word, and he supports a multi-party. So we are all on the same page.

“That’s why we are going around and bringing everybody to come around. So those who say they are under pressure, there is no pressure anymore. So, we’re all for multi-party, and everybody should get their house in order, as he said, he’s not going to help us, so we are going to sort our own house again.”
