Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected gun runners and three alleged cultists in a series of coordinated operations across the state, seizing dangerous weapons, ammunition, and other items during the raids.

In a statement released Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that a 36-year-old woman, Ekene Chroma, a native of Issele-Uku, and one Okafor Jonathan, from Onicha-Ugbo both in Aniocha North Local Government Area were apprehended by the CP Special Assignment Team during a sting operation in Okpanam, near Asaba.

The suspects were found in possession of two English-made single-barrel pistols and 110 live cartridges. According to Edafe, preliminary investigations suggest the duo were engaged in illegal arms trading. Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

In a related development, a separate operation targeting cult-related activities in Mosogar and surrounding communities led to further arrests. Acting on credible intelligence, the CP-Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, raided the residence of one Koko Josh. A search of the premises uncovered a black bag containing a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition, two locally made guns, eight live cartridges, multiple phones, a laptop, and fetish items.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Anthony Kelvin from Orhoakpor in Ethiope East and Gift Amotsuka from Jakpa in Warri North. Police say all three are suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity and remain in custody.

Commending the public for its continued support, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressed gratitude for the vital intelligence provided by community members, which he said has enabled the police to record “numerous successes.”

He urged more residents to support the police in the collective effort to maintain law and order, adding that the command remains committed to ridding the state of crime and criminality.

For information or emergencies, residents are encouraged to contact the police via the Command’s control room lines: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.
