TROOPS THWART TERRORISTS ATTEMPT TO ESTABLISH A STRONGHOLD IN KATISNA, RESCUES 19

In the pursuit of efforts to eliminate insecurity and other national hazards, forces engaged in Operation Fasan Yamma have thwarted initiatives by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP/JAS) terrorist organization to establish a stronghold in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, resulting in the apprehension of numerous affiliates and the liberation of 19 individuals in captivity.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, while disclosing this on Friday, stated: “In light of the continuous non-kinetic efforts of the troops, numerous terrorists capitulated and unreservedly liberated 19 captives they held in Danmusa LGA of Katsina State on 14 June 2025. 

Arms and munitions were likewise retrieved from the capitulated militants.

He stated, “From 11 to 18 June 2025, forces engaged with militants during combat reconnaissance undertaken in Tsafe and Shinkafi LGAs of Zamfara State, as well as Tangaza, Wurno, Silame, and Sabon Birni LGAs of Sokoto State.

“They also executed missions in Sabuwa, Kankara, Malumfashi, and Danmusa LGAs of Katsina State.

Throughout the confrontations, several insurgents were neutralized, while three individuals were apprehended. Additionally, three individuals who had been abducted were liberated. A variety of firearms, alongside diverse ammunition and motorcycles, were also retrieved.

“Military units acted upon intelligence regarding terrorist operations in Talata Mafara, Gusau, and Maru Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, as well as in Shinkafi and Isa Local Government Areas of Katsina and Sokoto States, respectively

“They also executed operations in Dankon-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. During these engagements, the military eliminated several terrorists and detained six of their accomplices. 

He reported that troops combating economic sabotage thwarted oil larceny valued at over N250 million, specifically Two Hundred and Fifty Million, Four Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirty-Three Naira (N250,425,833.00) only.
