The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of no fewer than 17 suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, arms trafficking, and illegal arms fabrication across the state.

The command also recovered eight locally made firearms, 16 cartridges, three vehicles, and a motorcycle during a series of intelligence-led operations and investigations aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates operating within Kaduna and neighboring states.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, who said the arrests were made between June and July 2025.

One of the key arrests followed a robbery incident on June 30 in which a 40-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Ismail Bello, was stabbed and dispossessed of his motorcycle by a passenger around LEA Primary School, Unguwan Gwari, Kaduna. After the case was reported on July 8, operatives of the Kawo Division’s Surveillance Team arrested the suspect, identified as Nura Auwal, and recovered the stolen motorcycle.

“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged in court upon completion of investigation,” Hassan said.

In another operation on June 19, two suspects Sanusi Bala of Zamfara State and Nura Bala from Zaria were arrested at Kano Road, Kaduna, while attempting to rob a tricycle rider. The suspects confessed to being part of a syndicate targeting commercial tricycles and were linked to a major receiver, Jamilu Zurmi of Zamfara, who is currently at large.

Three Golf III vehicles believed to be part of the operation were recovered:

A dark blue Golf III Wagon (Reg. No. ABC-152-AL), A green Golf III Wagon (Reg. No. ABJ-900-RE), An unregistered dark blue Golf III Wagon

Separately, on June 4, the police arrested five armed robbery suspects Ahmed Umar, Isah Musa, Zailani Sa’adu, Abdulrahman Mukhtar, and Ibrahim Bala  for invading a residence in Ungwan Sanusi, Kaduna, and stealing a Toyota Corolla. Investigations revealed the vehicle was sold to one Alhaji Garba Yaro, a cross-border criminal suspect based in Maradi, Niger Republic.

“The arrested suspects are currently in custody, and efforts are ongoing to track down their fleeing accomplices and dismantle the wider network,” Hassan said.

On July 7, anti-kidnapping operatives stormed Kwatakore in Nasarawan Doya Village, Makarfi LGA, arresting three suspects Rabilu Lawal, Sirajo Shuaibu, and Shehu Sarki allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a local resident’s wife. Two locally made guns and two cartridges were recovered during the raid.

Additionally, four suspects Hassan Ibrahim, Murtala Yakubu, Shuaibu Abubakar, and Ismail Shuaibu were apprehended on July 11 for operating an illegal firearm fabrication ring in Giroji, Makarfi LGA. Items recovered include:

Three locally fabricated rifles, Three skeletal rifle frames, 14 cartridges, Five rounds of live T.06 ammunition, A bench vice machine, filing machine, welding machine, assorted tools, and metal pipes

All suspects are currently in custody and under investigation.

The Kaduna Police Command reiterated its commitment to stamping out criminal elements and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
