The North West Governors Forum has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in all seven states of the region to honour the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in a London hospital.

In a statement signed by the Forum’s Chairman and Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, the governors expressed deep sorrow over Buhari’s death, describing him as “our father, our leader, and the pride of the Northwest region.”

Governor Radda stated, “The Northwest Governors Forum receives with shock and deep sorrow the news of the passing of our beloved former President, General Muhammadu Buhari. He lived a life of service, integrity, and sacrifice for the betterment of Nigeria.”

He explained that the holiday was a joint decision by all the governors in the region, as a mark of respect for the late leader.

Buhari’s body is expected to arrive in Katsina, his home state, by noon on Tuesday, with burial rites scheduled for 2 p.m. in accordance with Islamic traditions.

“We call on all Nigerians to join us in prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul,” Radda added.
