SULTAN OF SOKOTO MOURNS PASSING OF AWUJALE OF IJEBU LAND, OBA SIKIRU ADETONA

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu Land.

 

In a statement issued by his media team on Sunday, the Sultan described the death of the revered traditional ruler as a profound loss to the Yoruba nation, the Muslim Ummah, and Nigeria as a whole.

 

“His leadership has been pivotal not only in his local community but also across the broader spectrum of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria,” the Sultan stated.

 

Oba Adetona, who until his passing served as President General of the Ogun State Muslim Council, was hailed by the Sultan as a wise and fulfilled leader whose commitment to the service of Allah and humanity set him apart.

 

“Our consolation lies in the fact that the Awujale lived a fulfilled life, dedicated to the service of Almighty Allah, his people, and the entire Nigerian Muslim community. His wisdom and guidance will be sorely missed by us, the traditional rulers of Nigeria,” the statement read.

 

The Sultan extended his heartfelt condolences to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the government and people of Ogun State, the Ogun State Muslim Council, the Awujale-in-Council, Oba Adetona’s immediate family, and the entire Ijebu community.

 

He concluded with a prayer: “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and admit him to Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen.”

 

The tribute underscores the respect and admiration the late Awujale commanded nationwide for his decades of impactful traditional and religious leadership.
