The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for attempting to bribe police officers with N1.5 million in a bid to secure the unlawful release of a kidnap suspect currently under investigation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that Saleh approached operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad—who are handling an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping syndicate—and offered them the bribe to compromise the case.
“The officers, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice, rejected the offer and initiated legal procedures that led to Saleh’s arrest,” the statement read.
The arrest was part of a broader, discreet operation targeting a kidnapping network operating within Abuja and its surrounding areas.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, praised the officers involved for their ethical conduct and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance toward corruption and efforts to obstruct justice.
Further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
The police have urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies in their fight against crime and corruption.
