The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with a benign but chronic vein condition, following weeks of public speculation over visible swelling in his legs and bruising on his hand.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the 79-year-old president was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition among older adults, after he reported mild swelling in his lower legs.

Leavitt attributed the discoloration on Trump’s right hand to frequent handshaking combined with his daily aspirin regimen, which she described as a standard cardiovascular preventive measure. “This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy,” she noted.

The update came amid growing online scrutiny after Trump was seen with swollen ankles at the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey. The administration had previously downplayed concerns, insisting the hand bruises were a result of routine physical activity.

Leavitt said Trump had undergone a comprehensive examination, including ultrasound testing, which ruled out more serious conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, arterial disease, heart failure, or systemic illness. “The president remains in excellent health,” she stated.

Trump, who began his second term in January after defeating Democrat Joe Biden, became the oldest U.S. president ever inaugurated. Despite his age, he frequently touts his stamina, golfing regularly and often portraying himself as energetic — including in a recent image released by the administration depicting him as Superman.

His health disclosure comes at a time of heightened political contrast, as Trump’s administration has accused the Biden White House of concealing the former president’s mental and physical challenges. Biden, now 82, was forced to withdraw from the 2024 race following a widely criticized debate performance.

While Trump’s team seeks to emphasize transparency, Republican lawmakers have issued subpoenas to several former Biden aides, including his physician, as part of a probe into the Democrat’s medical fitness while in office.

Biden, who was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer earlier this year, has maintained that he was mentally fit for a second term and has rejected Republican claims about his capacity to lead.

For now, Trump’s doctors report no cause for alarm. “There is no indication of any serious underlying issue,” Leavitt said, assuring the public that the president’s condition is being managed and poses no threat to his ability to carry out his duties.
