The Ogun State Government has inaugurated a State Burial Committee to coordinate official activities and ceremonies in honour of the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, and was buried the following day.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the committee is tasked with organising a befitting state burial for the revered monarch in recognition of his profound contributions to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria.

The committee, chaired by Talabi himself, comprises key government officials, traditional leaders, and community representatives. During its inaugural meeting held on Thursday, July 17, the committee emphasized that it would work closely with the late monarch’s family—who were present at the meeting—as well as with stakeholders to design programmes worthy of Oba Adetona’s legacy.

The State Government also disclosed that the planned ceremonies are expected to attract high-profile dignitaries, including President Bola Tinubu, underscoring the national significance of the late monarch’s life and reign.

Oba Adetona, widely respected for his visionary leadership and dedication to the progress of Ijebuland and beyond, reigned for over six decades and was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential traditional rulers.
