FIRE RAZES SHOPS AND WAREHOUSE IN PORT HARCOURT, BUSINESS OWNERS COUNT LOSSES

An early morning blaze has devastated assets and property valued in the millions of naira in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event occurred on Friday morning at 57 Azikiwe Street, Mile 2 Diobu, within the jurisdiction of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the fire ignited around 3 am, though the cause remained unidentified at the time of publication.
It was ascertained that the blaze, which continued until 6 am, consumed numerous rooms and shops within the extensive compound.

Firefighters attempted to quell the flames, although certain sections of the buildings proved challenging to access.
To avert further spread, additional fire apparatus were dispatched along with reinforcement personnel, and their determined efforts ultimately led to the fire being extinguished after approximately four hours.
Mr. Wisdom Jack, proprietor of one of the businesses impacted, stated that he specializes in ice block machinery. He estimated his losses in materials and goods to be in the millions, expressing concern about how he would manage the repercussions.
He remarked: “Both the ice block machines, including those provided by companies for molding, have been destroyed, as you can see. I have no one to turn to.”
Another shopkeeper, identified as Chikezie, mentioned that he was still asleep when he received news of the incident, adding that he was unable to salvage any items from his store.
