Tragedy struck in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Friday when unidentified assailants abducted three siblings — a boy and his two sisters — and gruesomely killed the boy after allegedly forcing him to sleep with his sisters.

Eyewitnesses said the armed men invaded the victims’ home in the early hours of the day, taking the three siblings to an unknown destination. The lifeless body of the boy was later found at a river in a nearby community.

According to one resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the attackers had initially attempted to abduct four siblings but one escaped. “No one is sure whether this is a kidnapping or an assassination. The kidnappers have not contacted the family for ransom,” the source said.

A disturbing video of the incident has been circulating on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu had condemned the “heartless and barbaric act” in the strongest terms.

“The CP has ordered operatives of the State Intelligence Department to identify the surviving sibling to assist in the investigation,” Ikenga stated.

He assured the public that the command is committed to apprehending the culprits and urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing credible information to aid police efforts.

The CP further reiterated the command’s resolve to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes, pledging to continue prioritising the safety of lives and property in the state.
