The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled a notorious trans-border child trafficking syndicate, rescuing eleven victims and arresting four suspects linked to the recruitment and transportation of young Nigerian women to Ghana for prostitution.
The breakthrough came on August 13, 2025, when operatives from the Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted a 15-year-old girl in the company of a suspected recruiter, identified as Mustapha Abubakar, who was allegedly preparing to transport her to Ghana. The case was promptly transferred to the Command’s Special Squad I, which, acting on credible intelligence, launched a coordinated manhunt for other members of the gang.
The operation led to the arrest of three additional suspects: 54-year-old Charles Chima at Amuwo Odofin, 36-year-old Emmanuel Nwaka along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and 21-year-old Princess John at Ojota. Investigations revealed that the suspects belong to an organised network engaged in trafficking young women from Nigeria to Ghana.
Subsequent police action resulted in the rescue of ten more victims, aged between 21 and 29. The rescued women are currently in protective custody, receiving care and assistance, while arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.
The suspects remain in detention and are assisting police investigators in exposing the full extent of the trafficking ring.
Commending the operatives for their swift and professional response, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for human trafficking and exploitation. He urged the public to remain vigilant, monitor the welfare of young people, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.
